Wrinkles signify wisdom, right?
Wrong.
With age comes change and while there is no way to completely avoid wrinkles, there are definitely precautions and steps you can take to reduce the amount of wrinkles that you get over a lifetime.
- Avoid overexposure to the sun. Sun exposure can be a major cause of wrinkles, skin damage, and skin cancer. Be sure to wear sunscreen with sufficient SPF at all times, cover up as much as possible with hats, sunglasses, long sleeve clothing, etc., and avoid being outside during peak sun hours.
- Keep your body hydrated. Drinking adequate amounts of water throughout the day will reduce the appearance of wrinkles by keeping your skin looking firmer and more toned.
- Keep your skin hydrated with a moisturizing lotion at night and moisturizing lotion with SPF during the day.
- Exercise regularly. Medical experts explain that exercise gets your cardiovascular system going, which is great for getting needed nutrients and oxygen to your skin.
- Sleep. Getting enough sleep at night not only affects your mood, but it can affect your skin as well. According to a Yale dermatologist when you don’t get enough sleep, the body produces excess cortisol, a hormone that breaks down skin cells. Get enough rest, and you’ll produce more HGH (human growth hormone), which helps skin remain thick, more “elastic,” and less likely to wrinkle.
- In addition to getting enough sleep, it is recommended that you sleep on your back as much as possible to avoid “sleep lines” that can become etched into your skin as you get older.
- Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, protein, and foods that contain the fatty acid omega-3 which will reduce wrinkles by nourishing your skin and keeping it looking youthful.
- Begin an anti-aging skin care regime. There are many skin care products out there promising to reduce wrinkles, so it is important to look for a skin care line which contain antioxidants and Vitamin A Acid such as tretinoin, REtin-A and Renova.
- Avoid stress. Stress can take a major toll on the body and can be a cause of premature aging and wrinkles. Try to find ways to reduce stress by simplifying your life.
- Don’t smoke, avoid second-hand smoke, and other pollutants in the air that can cause premature aging by increasing the number of free radicals in the body’s cells.
