Studies show that it takes 2-3 weeks of repetitive behavior to form a new pattern in your brain. Once the pattern is formed it becomes an automatic behavioral response. The following five healthy habits will help you stay healthy and feel great.
Healthy Habit #1: Eat Breakfast. Every Morning. Seems easy enough, right? TheAmerican Heart Associationreported that reported that breakfast eaters are significantly less likely to be obese and get diabetes compared with nonbreakfast eaters. In addition to reducing the risk of obesity, studies have shown that breakfast eaters are more alert, have greater attention spans and feel better both physically and mentally throughout the day than those who don’t eat breakfast.
Healthy Habit #2: Get Enough Sleep. While you may think that you can function on only 5 hours of sleep a night, studies show that the average adult needs at least 7 hours of sleep a night. Not getting enough sleep will not only make you cranky, but it will weaken your immune system, making your body susceptible to getting sick.
Healthy Habit #3: Make Time to Be Active. Staying Active is a surefire way to keep your body in good shape and functioning properly. Exercise not only reduces your chances of getting heart disease and certain cancers and developing high blood pressure and diabetes, but it has a handful of immediate benefits as well. People who exercise not only have more energy, but they are happier, able to think more clearly, manage stress better, and feel great about themselves.
Healthy Habit #4: Eat Healthily. Eating healthy foods will not only help you maintain a healthy weight, but can help reduce the risk of some cancers, beat the signs of aging, improve memory, promote heart health, and can even enhance the immune system. Incorporate fruits and vegetables into your diet by choosing to eat healthy snacks and drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to keep your body properly hydrated.
Healthy Habit #5: Wash Your Hands. Wash Your Hands. Wash Your Hands. There’s no better way to stop the spread of bacteria, germs, and illnesses than by washing your hands.
