Don’t let the economic downturn stop you from taking care of yourself. Transform your home into a luxury spa by trying these do-it-yourself beauty remedies:
- Create a mask to fight oily skin by mixing 2 tablespoons of wheat flour with 1 tablespoon of water and apply to your face in an upward circular motion. Leave the mask on for a few minutes before rinsing with cool water.
- Slice a potato into ¼ inch circular pieces and place over your eyes to reduce dark circles and leave your skin feeling refreshed.
- Nourish and moisturize dry skin by grinding up 3-5 tablespoons of raw peanuts, mixing with 2 tablespoons of milk and ¼ teaspoon of honey. Apply the mixture to your face, leave it on until it dries and then rinse with water.
- Another great way to moisturize and tighten dry skin is to mash half of a ripe banana and mix it with about a teaspoon of honey to make a paste. Apply the mixture onto your face and rinse after a few minutes.
- A great mask for sensitive skin is egg yolk mixed with honey. Mix the two ingredients together, massage onto your skin, leave it on for 20 minutes and then rinse.
- Olive oil is great for moisturizing dry skin and can also be used to soothe sunburn. Pour a few teaspoons into the palm of your hand and massage the oil into your skin.
- Baking soda is a great way to naturally exfoliate your skin. Once a week, rub your skin with baking soda while in the shower, for a smooth, silky feeling. For your face, gently massage the baking soda in problem areas to remove dead skin and black heads.
- For a sweeter way to naturally exfoliate, mix ½ cup sugar and 1 cup of olive oil with the juice from half of a freshly squeezed lemon. Apply to your body by starting at the feet and working your way up. Massage in a circular motion, then hop in the shower and rinse it off.
