woman drinking red wine; the benefits of red wine can lead to a longer healthier life

Who would have thought that your glass of red wine with dinner could be keeping you healthy?  A study done by the Harvard Medical School and the National Institute of Aging showed that “heavy doses of red wine extract lowered the rate of diabetes, liver problems and other fat-related ill effects in obese mice.”

So, what is it about red wine that has these incredible effects  Besides being packed with antioxidants, red wine contains resveratrol  Resveratrol is located in the skin of grapes, as well as in other plants including peanuts and some berries and has been found to speed up the activity and regrowth in cells.  This not only helps with the aforementioned obesity related problems, but can prevent certain cancers, act as an anti-inflammatory agent, lower blood sugar, and even prolong your life.

In the Harvard study, the high doses of resveratrol given to the mice would be equivalent to an adult drinking 1000 bottles of wine a day obviously not recommended.  So, while experts don’t recommend individuals to make an effort to drink more red wine in order to prolong their life, they are continuing to do research on how a concentrated pill form of resveratrol could unlock the answer to a longer life by “preventing the diseases of aging, like Alzheimer’s, diabetes, heart disease, even cancer!
