  1. Eating Chocolate Causes You to Breakout. False. Discovery Health reports that nothing you eat inherently makes you break out.  However, eating a well balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables and low in fat can help you have healthier skin.  So, avoid overloading on the chocolate and French fries, not for your face, but for your own health.
  2. Tanning Will Clear Up Acne. False.  While exposing your skin to the sun tends to dry out your skin, which may help clear up current breakouts, you’re more apt to do serious damage to your skin than help it. In fact, while your skin may appear to be getting clearer, the change in the color of your skin due to the sun’s rays may just be camouflaging the acne instead. Skin cancer is a serious problem and the number of individuals who battle skin cancer each year is rising. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. Take care of your skin and prevent premature aging by using a moisturizer that contains SPF.
  3. The More You Wash Your Face, the Better Your Skin Will Be. False. Over washing your skin not only dries out your skin, but prompts your oil glands to work harder which can cause oily skin and breakouts. Wash your face at morning, at night and after a workout and avoid touching or picking at your face throughout the rest of the day
  4. Expensive is Best. False. Often times the expensive brands are just as effective, if not identical to the off-brands. The only difference is you’re paying a higher price to cover the advertising costs. Look for products that contain the ingredients you need, but may not be the name brand. Pay for the product, not the name.
  5. Organic is Better. False. While organic may be better for you to eat, it isn’t necessarily better for your skin. In fact, many natural or organic products have a short shelf life and can harm or irritate the skin if the product has expired. If you’re going to go the organic route, do your research and purchase a product that is going to work.
