And while we may think that these differences shouldn’t have any effect on what types of products we use on our skin, it is THESE differences that actually determine what types of products we should use. There are a million products available on the market, each one geared toward a different type of skin. Your skin is one of the largest and most important organs of the body as it provides protection for your body against bacteria, infection, and injury. Getting to know your skin on a deeper level will help you take better care of your skin, determine what types of products to buy and will help you keep your skin looking younger, longer.
- Dry Skin “ It is easy to spot dry skin, and quite difficult to try and cover it up. Individuals with dry skin tone will wake up with dry skin and it can even appear patchy and red at times. To combat severely dry skin be sure to use an intense moisturizer at night, a good moisturizer with SPF during the day, and drink ample amounts of water to keep your skin hydrated.
- Oily Skin “ Individuals with oily skin may feel as if this is the hardest type of skin to maintain, and that’s because it is. Due to the excessive amounts of sebum that are produced, oily skin is prone to breakouts. In order to combat oily skin be sure to wash your skin often in order to remove the dirt and dust that can easily become stuck to the skin and then absorbed. There are products especially designed for oily skin “ specifically moisturizers that will provide the protection your skin needs without making your skin oilier. Also, try to avoid consumption of fried foods as this can add to the problem.
- Sensitive Skin “ Individuals with sensitive skin must be extremely aware of what they are exposing their skin to and what types of products they use. Sensitive skin easily gets itchy, red, or breaks out when soaps or lotions that don’t sit well with the skin are applied. If you have sensitive skin, be sure to look for products that are mild, without perfume or color, and are made especially for sensitive skin.
- Normal Skin “ These rare and lucky individuals require the least amount of special care for their skin type. A gentle cleanser and moisturizer in the morning and at night will keep normal skin looking great.
