The Most Important Diet Rule Ever.

When it comes to weight loss, people tend to get confused.  Many health tips conflict with one another and people start to mix up exactly what they should be doing.  Most don’t want to give up their favorite foods or change their lifestyles to fit a new diet’s requirements.  Some think that if they just exercise more they can meet their fitness and weight loss goals without a significant change in their diet.  Could this be true?  Sadly, this isn’t the case.

The most important rule to follow in your regimen is 20% exercise and 80% diet.  These are not mutually exclusive practices, both are required to meet your health goals.  While this may not be news for some, this is the main rule that I followed when I lost 40 lbs, so it does work.  Working out is a main part of weight loss, but it is not the most important.  Understanding a diet’s requirements is a very important point.

When it comes to portion control, I just use my hand.  Perhaps you have heard of this one before.  It is completely based on the size of your hand.  It relates to the amount of carbs, protein and fat you should have in each meal.

  • Fist- amount of protein
  • Palm- amount of carbs
  • 2 fingers (index and middle)- amount of fat

You can even modify this a little bit if you wish.  If you want to cut back a little bit on fat, you could bump the serving size down to about the size of a pair of dice.  Do not cut it out completely, fat is a necessary part of a diet, you need to eat fat to burn fat.

Please feel free to leave me questions or comments on these health tips, I hope to hear all of your opinions.  Till next time!
